That is why Relocy takes a different approach: instead of giving you one number, we break every city into eight distinct dimensions so you can weight what matters most to you.
The Eight Dimensions
Our scoring system evaluates cities across cost of living, safety, healthcare quality, internet infrastructure, climate, nightlife and social life, education, and public transport. Each dimension is scored on a 1-10 scale using a combination of official statistics, survey data from expat communities and our own research. The overall score is a weighted average, but the real value lies in examining the individual dimensions.
How We Collect Data
We aggregate data from over 50 sources including Numbeo, WHO, World Bank, national statistics offices and community surveys. Our AI research team cross-references multiple sources for each data point to ensure accuracy. Scores are updated quarterly, and we flag any significant changes between updates. Transparency matters: you can see the source breakdown for every metric on each city page.
Using the Scores Wisely
A digital nomad focused on internet speed and cost might prioritize Tallinn (9.2 internet, 7.5 cost) over Barcelona (7.5 internet, 5.5 cost), even though Barcelona scores higher overall. A family relocating for work might weight healthcare and education above nightlife. The comparison tool lets you put two cities side by side and see exactly where each one excels and where it falls short.
Your Decision Framework
We recommend starting with your non-negotiables: the two or three dimensions where you will not compromise. Filter cities that score at least 7 in those areas, then compare the remaining dimensions. Visit your top two or three choices for at least a week each before making a final decision. Data informs the choice, but living the experience confirms it.
